A poem for a sleepiness night
Insomniac on 5th Avenue,
Never a wink of sleep.
Tired and restless,
Moving so fast.
You will miss him if you blink.
A puddle to the left,
As you run right by,
The water is deeper than you thought,
You worry you will sink and die.
Insomniac on 12th Avenue
He follows you so fast,
Rights and lefts you stagger so,
The chase will stop, it cannot last.
You lean against a wall and hide,
He stops for a moment to breathe.
You think you will escape this time,
Finally, you will feel some relief.
Insomniac on your mind,
Staring in a mirror.
You don’t understand why he stays,
Why is your reflection slowly clearer?
You wipe the steam,
He smiles so wide.
He will never let you sleep.
The Insomniac got you now.
You are in his grasp.
The talking, the pills will never work.
You can not banish the Insomniac.
It is your curse.
Insomniac welcome home,
Come and have some tea.
We will be best friends forever, just the curse of the Insomanic and me.

Sleepless nights are like a predator chasing you, but no matter how far you run you won’t escape. Insomnia can be part of various mental health and physical conditions or a standalone struggle. Sleep is vital to your body’s functioning, but that is not simple for everyone. For some, advice like setting a schedule, drinking more water or you’re not trying hard enough is not helpful nor accurate advice.
There is no one size fits all solution for insomnia.
