Debunking myths about autism
The new K-Drama on Netflix, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, depicts an autistic lawyer starting at a new law firm. She is described as intelligent but has autism spectrum disorder. The film asserts that autism means she struggles to be empathetic. The entertainment industry perpetuates the idea that autistic people do not have empathy.
It is disheartening that the entertainment industry is still spreading misinformation about autism and empathy.
An article from 2021 in PsychCentral, explained that a neurotypical society sees autistic people as unempathetic due to the social challenges that come with being actually autistic.

Neurotypical society is diverse, and so is the autistic community. Everyone should take time to learn from the autistic community, family, and friends what it truly means to be autistic.
